What does it mean to be a teen coming of age in the Obama era? The Mario Van Peebles directed We the Party aims to find out. Set in a Los Angeles high school, the film follows a group of five racially diverse friends as they navigate friendship, peer pressure, bullying and romance.

Compared to the '80s classic The Breakfast Club, We the Party puts an updated spin on all the traditional teen angst of past generations. “Their world is changing fast,” Van Peebles said about the youth today and characters featured in his film. “From their music to their dancing, jerking twerking, skateboarding, dating and facebooking. Thug Life is old school now and, for some, smart is the new gangsta'!”

We the Party
stars Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Michael Jai White and Snoop Dogg. The film also stars Van Peebles’s real life sons Mandela Van Peebles, Makaylo Van Peebles and daughter Maya Van Peebles. The movie is available today on DVD and Blu-ray.
