Don Cornelius's legacy will live on at this year's Soul Train Awards, and host Cedric the Entertainer gives us exclusive details about the show. "It's really all about taking the show to a different level this year," the actor and Broadway star tells BET.com. "We're expecting a few surprises."
Highlights will include appearances by Usher, who is this year's top nominee with five nods, and a reunited New Edition, who will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. But, Cedric says, the focus of the show will be on two departed icons, Whitney Houston and Cornelius.
Whitney "was one of the great voices and talents of our culture, so there's plans for some type of tribute," he reveals. "And I plan on paying a great tribute to Don [Cornelius]. Soul Train should be a Broadway musical so my theme is going to be Soul Train: The Musical."
Cedric adds, "there is also going to be this thing about the history of Soul Train, recognizing a lot of our great performers, so we're excited about that."
The Soul Train Awards will air on BET on November 25.
