Casting News: Nia Long and Gabourey Sidibe to Star in Upcoming Films

Long will star in Tyler Perry’s Single Mom’s Club, Gabby to co-star in White Bird in a Blizzard.

Some of Black Hollywood’s favorite actresses will soon be busy at work starring in new and upcoming feature film releases. Nia Long has been cast as the third of four female leads in Tyler Perry’s next movie, Single Mom’s Club, according to Blackfilm.com. Long will star along with William Levy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Zulay Henao.

Single Mom’s Club will chronicle a group of single mothers from different backgrounds who are brought together by an incident at their children’s school. They connect and bond by creating a support group that helps them find both the humor in life as well as the inner strength to overcome hard times.

Perry will write, direct, produce and star in Single Mom’s Club. It is scheduled to be released in spring 2014.

Gabourey Sidibe’s next feature film has just been announced. Shadow and Act is reporting that she will star in the upcoming drama White Bird in a Blizzard. The film is the story of a troubled young woman whose life is turned around by the disappearance of her mother. White Bird in a Blizzard also stars Shailene Woodley, Eva Green, Shiloh Fernandez and Christopher Meloni.

There is no word yet on whom The Big C star will play in the film. White Bird in a Blizzard is due in theaters in 2013.
