The department store employee who was slapped, for no apparent reason, by Katt Williams, 39, has been fired from his job, TMZ reports.

Forrest Liebenberg, a worker at Target who found himself on the receiving end of Williams's open palm during an otherwise routine customer service conversation, claims he simply followed protocol and called for help at the time of the incident. Now, Liebenberg says he has been terminated without cause.

"They weren't very clear, but it is obvious to me that it's based on this incident," the worker says, adding "maybe I was uninformed about how serious the situation was with Target, but obviously it was serious."

Liebenberg indicates that perhaps Target bosses believe he's responsible for leaking surveillance footage of the incident to the media, but insists that he didn't do it.

No statement has been issued by Target, nor has any legal action been pursued as yet by any of the parties involved. Williams, of course, has a history with erratic and sometimes violent behavior. In addition, yesterday Katt announced he was retiring from comedy, "I'm just gonna go ahead and announce my retirement from stand-up. I'm kinda done."
