In the Hive, the last film starring the deceased actor Michael Clarke Duncan, is scheduled to hit theaters next week. Produced and directed by Robert Townsend, the film is based on the true story of an alternative school for troubled youth in North Carolina.

Specifically, the story focuses on the street-hardened character Xtra (Jonathan McDaniels) who’s sent to the Hive, a school for boys with disciplinary problems and horrible grades. There, they encounter the school’s stern and unwavering director Ms. Inez (Loretta Devine) and her “giant of an assistant” Mr. Hollis (Duncan).

Also starring in the film are Roger Guenveur Smith and Vivica A. Fox, playing Xtra’s "boozy" mother.

In the Hive opens in a limited theatrical release starting on December 14.
