Box Office: Skyfall Continues to Rise
Bond is back, baby.
After losing its first place spot to Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 over the past three weeks, Skyfall is back on top as the number-one movie at the box office this weekend. The latest installment of the spy franchise, which at $918 million worldwide box office has become Sony Pictures' highest-grossing film to date, was boosted by an utterly disastrous performance by new entry Playing for Keeps. The romantic comedy, starring Jessica Biel and Gerard Butler, flopped with only $6 million over the weekend.
Rise of the Guardians took second place with Breaking Dawn in third, and Steven Spielberg's historical biopic Lincoln came in fourth. Ang Lee's Life of Pi rounded out the top five. Denzel Washington's Flight hung in to the top 10 with an additional $3.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $86.2 million. A holiday rush to the cinema could push its total past $100 million, as could an Oscar nomination for Washington.
Next week, Peter Jackson's The Hobbit debuts along with In the Hive, the final film of late actor Michael Clarke Duncan. In the Hive also stars Vivica A. Fox and Loretta Devine.
