NBA star ties knot in secret ceremony with a special date.
Power forward Amar’e Stoudemire is officially off the market. On Wednesday, the New York Knicks star married longtime girlfriend Alexis Welch in a secret ceremony on the roof deck of their apartment in Manhattan.
The couple, who have three children together, shared the moment with 12 guests, signifying the special date — 12/12/12 — of their nuptials. “They decided to do this because of the date,” said an insider, “and they wanted to do something spiritual and private for themselves.” Stoudemire and Welch began dating 10 years ago and got engaged June 2 when Stoudemire proposed to his lady with a diamond that cost more than $1 million.
According to another insider, guests were mostly family members, including Stoudemire and Welch’s three children, who participated in the ceremony. Stoudemire, who hasn’t played most of the year, is currently recovering from an injury.
Immediately following the wedding the couple attended the “12-12-12” concert at Madison Square Garden. The show was a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
