Golden Globes 2012: Kerry Washington and Jamie Foxx Snubbed

Denzel recognized for Flight while Quentin Tarantino nominated for Django Unchained.

Nominations for the 70th Golden Globes have been announced, and as usual the picks have sparked plenty of controversy. The star power-filled list of nominees is heavy on studio fare and light on indies, despite a breakout year for art house films.

The fall's pair of antebellum-era films, Lincoln and Django Unchained, lead the nominations, with Steven Spielberg's biopic of the assassinated president leading the pack with seven nods. Django picked up nominations for Best Motion Picture, Best Supporting Actor nods for Leonardo DiCaprio and Christoph Waltz and both Best Director and Best Screenplay for Quentin Tarantino. Interestingly, neither the film's leads Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington or Samuel L. Jackson were recognized.

Denzel Washington will have a shot at Best Actor in a Drama for his role as a troubled pilot in Flight, while Nicole Kidman made the cut for her controversial part in Lee Daniels' The Paperboy. On the television front, Don Cheadle held it down with House of Lies.

Noticeable is the lack of diversity among the nominees, only slightly better than the whitewashed 2011 Academy Awards.
