It was a dim weekend at the box office, with no clear winners but a couple of huge flops. Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters topped the charts with a weak $19 million. The 3D action pic, starring Jeremy Renner, took an extra hit from the Midwest snowstorm on Friday night.
Movie 43, featuring one of the biggest ensemble casts ever to appear in a single film, fizzled out with $5 million and sixth place. The interconnected series of shorts stars Common, Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet and scores of others. Meanwhile Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham's Parker, another R-rated action pic vying for the top spot, fell way short with only $7 million and a fifth place finish.
But it wasn't all bad news: Django Unchained hit another milestone over the weekend, crossing $250 million in worldwide box office and easily claiming the title of Quentin Tarantino's biggest film to date. The film heads into next month's Oscars with stiff competition but a lot of momentum.
Next week, Sylvester Stallone will attempt to continue his hot streak with Bullet to the Head while Cicely Tyson and an ensemble cast aim to scare up ticket sales with The Haunting in Connecticut 2: Ghosts of Georgia.
