Will Ferrell and David Koechner have been making audiences shake with laughter since their days on Saturday Night Live. Now, the comedy stars — who have worked together on at least a half-dozen films — reteam for Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, the long-awaited sequel to the 2004 hit.
We sat down with Ferrell and Koechner to discuss their new film, which includes a record-setting number of cameos, starting with which one of the film's guest stars — Drake or Kanye West — would make a better anchorman. "I would say Kanye, because he'd have commentary on every news story," says Koechner. Ferrell votes for Drake, "because he would make everything rhyme."
The pair also talk about one of their most memorable moments on Saturday Night Live: meeting Tupac Shakur, who was a musical guest on the show just six months before he died. "He was surrounded by a lot of people," Koechner recalls, while Ferrell remembers seeing the late, great rapper in a rare moment alone. "He was so polite and nice," says Ferrell. "He was counter to his persona."
