The actor seemed less than sympathetic over Hoffman's death.
Hollywood is mourning the loss of Philip Seymour Hoffman, but not everybody agrees that the actor's death at 46 was a tragedy. LeVar Burton, 56, has caused a stir for a series of tweets that appear less-than-sympathic about Hoffman's untimely death, caused by a heroin overdose.
"Damn, #PSH was SO talented! However, if Y'all should find me dead with a needle in my arm, in my underwear . . . please put my pants on!" Burton tweeted on Sunday, the same day Hoffman was found dead and with a needle in his arm at his New York City apartment. When one of the Roots alum's Twitter followers wrote back "not cool, dude," Burton replied, "Not cool is shooting up when you got kids...#areyoukiddingme."
"No matter how you slice it, PSH wasted a great gift!" the actor added. "Lash out at me if you want to...I ain't goin' out like that!"
As details of Hoffman's death emerge, they paint a gruesome picture. NYPD reportedly found 65 bags of heroin in the actor's apartment. The Academy Award winner had been clean for 23 years before he relapsed last year. He sought treatment for his drug addiction in May 2013, but ultimately lost his battle with the deadly drug on Sunday morning, when his body was found.
