Have you noticed the onslaught of celebrity jeweled headpieces? These old world accessories, which typically feature cascading baubles, are all the rage this season. Khloe Kardashian first popped up last October wearing a beautiful House of Harlow 1960 brass headpiece. Then Beyoncé wore an amazing Egyptian–inspired piece in the “Run the World” video.  Most recently, Amber Rose donned an elaborate one while dining with her boyfriend, Wiz Khalifa, at Katsuya in West Hollywood.

Because of their costume appeal, the key to realistically rocking these pieces is to take a subtle approach. They’re reminiscent of revered queens like Cleopatra, but a modern day pairing can get tacky and overwhelming if it’s not done right. Case and point: Khloe Kardashian. A busy print, further complicated by a bold headpiece, is a bit much. In contrast, Amber Rose’s simple white dress provides the perfect canvas to have fun with the accessory. As for Bey, pretty much anything goes when it comes to a costume, but you probably wouldn’t catch her walking the streets of NY in such a dramatic fashion.
