We love Solange Knowles' trend-setting style and hair fearlessness (gorgeous in a weave, curly short crop or fluffy Afro!), so it’s nice to see her get some shine and represent women of color in major beauty campaigns this year. In addition to her post as spokesperson for Carol’s Daughter, she was also named a face of Rimmel London in spring 2010 and will appear in a fall campaign for the beauty company.
The hot mama says she doesn’t take her responsibility as a role model lightly. “I am very careful of ever putting the role model tag on my shoulders. I am human, and I am expected to have imperfections and make mistakes,” Solange told Rimmel London. “However, if there are positive things I do that inspire or influence people, I feel like my purpose as a person is that much more fulfilled. When I announced my role with Rimmel, I felt really proud to see such a positive response, especially being that I represent someone of color, a single mom, an artist…and that I don’t have to compromise my views to do so!”
The campaign makes a lot of strong statements. Solange is modeling bold eyes and nude or pink lips and a smoky eye, plus a red lip look that’s particularly powerful. “I have always been passionate about makeup because it allows me to express my personality and style,” Solange continued. ”I’m very excited about representing Rimmel because it’s such a young, vibrant, on-trend brand.”
