Group Gives Black Barbie a Natural Makeover

Group gives Black Barbie a natural makeover. "Fro-lific" will be gifting some gorgeous natural-hair barbies to little girls in Georgia.

How sweet would it have been to have natural-hair Barbie dolls when we were growing up? Candace McBride and her Columbus, Georgia, natural hair group, “Fro-lific,” understand the importance of the current hair movement and they’re taking matters into their own hands. This Christmas, 40 young girls in the city’s Booker T. Washington apartments will receive newly made-over Barbies with kinky, curly or wavy hair.  Using an online tutorial that uses pipe cleaners and boiling water, the group will transform the dolls’ straight hair into textured tresses.
“When you look for dolls, they all have straight hair,” McBride told the ledger-enquirer.com, with group member Jennifer Henderson adding, “We wanted to show the girls that basically, it’s okay the way God made you.”
McBride says she chose Barbie because of her iconic status and cutesy accessories. This is an excellent gift idea, so any mommies looking to do the same for their little ones should check out the group’s Facebook page.
Merry styling!
