There is no shortage of publications and TV programs that have taken time to honor Whitney Houston's life and career since she passed away on Feb. 11, a day before the Grammy Awards. Essence magazine's April issue will be the latest with a special tribute to the late singer, her talent, rise to stardom, and how she influenced so many who came after her.
"Whether singing sophisticated pop ballads or soul-stirring gospel, her songs moved us to dance and moved us to tears," Essence states. "Her unparalleled talent influenced an entire generation of young performers: Mariah, Beyoncé, Christina, Alicia ... To millions she was pop royalty, but to those who knew her and loved her, she was the girl from Newark who was blessed with one of the greatest musical instruments of our time."
The issue will contain a photo collage as well as messages from her friends in music, politics and Hollywood.
