The fashion-forward Tracee Ellis Ross is Uptown magazine’s March/April 2012 cover girl, taking on the “Hollywood issue” in an assortment of refreshingly unique looks. The newsstand image finds her in a white kimono-style robe with a halo of curls and a striking red lip and promises to give a glimpse of the star “like you’ve never seen her before.”
Inside, BET’s Reed Between the Lines star poses in a modernized “geisha” look with straight hair and bangs and there’s a nod to her mom Diana Ross’s style with a close-up of Ellis Ross in a halter dress with bigger, teased out hair. She also models a sleek animal print dress with a high bun and strikes a fierce pose in an awe-inspiring mixed-print outfit with a striking pair of mint green pants and coral curved heels.
Tracee consistently nails it with her style and it's no wonder: besides being raised by a glamorous style icon, the actress says she grew up absorbing editorial fashion shoots. “I have loved magazines since I was a child. And let me explain something, I do not read magazines, I look at the pictures,” she told Uptown. “When I was in high school I would make wish boards. They were feelings and images, not words. It was all fashion.”
Lucky for the trendsetter, she’s found a friend that’s just as obsessed with fashion as she is, in Kanye West. Tracee tells the magazine that the two are L.A. neighbors and after she met the rapper and appeared in his “The New Workout Plan” music video they realized they had a lot in common. “We can talk for hours about fashion. His closet is ridiculous,” she said. And if it wasn't already apparent that Kanye knows his fashion, Tracee also added, “I will see him, and he will look down and ask, ‘Azzedine Alaia?’ and I am like, ‘Yeah.’ When I showed him the clip of me in the Thierry Mugler show, he was like, ‘Shut the f--k up! I am obsessed with those two seasons of Mugler.’”
