Lenny Kravitz has made his foray into mass producing for the design world. The rocker/actor unveiled a series of chairs he designed for Italian furniture company Kartell at the Milan Furniture Fair. The chairs are based on famed designer Phillippe Starck's "Mademoiselle" armchair and come decked out in python, leather or fur. Kravitz also designed black and white tiles for Lea Ceramiche that were inspired by water drops and waves and create an undulating effect on the wall.
Kravitz said that he'd always been interested in interior decorating and would create pieces that he couldn't find or copied those he couldn't afford in order to achieve the atmosphere he was looking for.
"Since I was a kid, it was always important how my room was put together. I would buy all these posters, fabrics and lighting, and I would make the room the way I wanted it to be,” Kravitz said. “The most important thing was to create a vibe,” he said, and once that happened, “my world was set.”
In 2003, Kravitz founded Kravitz Design Inc. and has since worked with Swarovski on a set of chandeliers and designed a Miami Beach recording studio along with the Florida Room lounge at the Delano Hotel in Miami. He even brings his design team along on tours to work on projects after performances.
“I love that I am maturing. I am glad to be doing what it is that I love. I appreciate it now more than ever. When you are younger ... I think I was running so fast, I didn’t get to take it all in,” Kravitz said about fueling his creative ambitions. “I am really savoring being creative, I am really savoring each moment.”
