After a long stint under Bad Boy CEO, Sean Combs, the 28-year-old singer has finally emerged as an independent artist and is using her fearless look and robust melodies to convey her solo message. In the 4-page editorial, Dawn brings her rebellious style and models edgy pieces from Sammy B., Marc Jacob and Forever 21 for an exclusive photo shoot with Vibe Vixen.
Staying ahead of the fashion trends is a skill Dawn acquired while working with Diddy. "Check the track record. Danity Kane and Dirty Money were pushing the limits in everything," Richard tells Vibe Vixen. "Danity Kane had five lead singers, which was unheard of, wearing Heatherette...It's never been your typical aesthetic."
While Dawn readies her debut album, GoldenHeart, she's diligently committed to building a sound and look that she will always be remembered for. "I want the music and style to be daring in itself," says Richard. "I'm pushing androgyny with the patterns and presence or armor. It's not too exaggerated, that's what the sound is," she continues. "There's a presence of strength in the image and music."
We're rooting for you (and your style), Dawn.
