The former model says she laid the "fashion blueprint" for Beyoncé.
Kimora Lee Simmons made her mark on the fashion world when she and ex-husband Russell Simmons created the Baby Phat brand. Now, with her latest TV series, Kimora: House of Fab on the Style Network, to promote, Simmons sat down with the TheGrio to explain that she helped create "the blueprint" that allowed popular artists to venture out with fashion lines of their own.
"Before us there wasn't any Beyoncé, there wasn't Sean John or Justin Timberlake, there wasn't Jessica Simpson. There wasn't any of that," Simmons said. "We really laid the blueprint for that."
"One thing I love about myself in this business is that I don't have to rely on the sales of an album, or my movie being a hit for my clothing to be a hit," she added.
The former model and now single mother of three also explained how she managed to balance a career and parenting since her split from actor Djimon Hounsou, saying they now have two fathers who love them instead of one.
