Venus Williams recently gave a preview of EleVen's fall collection in Manhattan and fans of the tennis star's clothing line can expect more bold colors and prints, like pink and python, looks she'll be sporting during the U.S. Open and other tournaments come summer. Some of us have trouble choosing an outfit the night before, but Williams has to give word about her wardrobe choices months in advance to help her and retailers promote her line.
"When we are designing, I am narrowing down which ones I'm wearing. I have got to plan ahead.... The retailers want to know right away which ones I'll be wearing," she says. "I have to be effective with my time."
Williams commented on staying on top of trends and attending fashion shows to get inspired and see which looks can be translated into sportswear, but says some are harder to convert. She added that becoming a designer has made her take a good look at her own wardrobe and notes that her closet contains a lot of white, black, and green, and floral prints that will appear in watercolor tones in her upcoming spring collection.
Williams says it took her a while to warm up to red, orange and turquoise, but admits her collection can't be only her favorite colors and styles. "I'm loosening up."
