Tina Knowles was the mastermind behind Destiny's Child's costumes and continued to style daughter Beyoncé through her solo career. Now that Bey is out on her Mrs. Carter Show World Tour (buy your ticket for her performance at the BET Experience on June 28!), her mom is right on hand to help with costume changes and quick fixes. Knowles recently chatted with Grazia Daily about her favorite ensembles, handling changes on the spot and the inspiration for the tour's outfits.
"Regal and royal was the theme of the wardrobe," Knowles says. "We took a cue from the O2's commercial which had a queen theme. For the very first scene, Ralph & Russo created these amazing stage outfits because we wanted something over the top and queen-like but modern," she says. "They nailed it with the white outfit."
Another of her favorites is the printed Kenzo romper, saying, "It's African inspired and I like the movement of it, it's really cool with the choreography."
And with all the costume changes that take place each night, how does the team handle fashion mishaps?
"Beyoncé makes nine costume changes so you're going to have little things that go wrong. You just have to think really quickly because you literally have 30 or 40 seconds to change so she's become a master at it," she says. "The designer pieces are beautiful but the team here put in zippers and hidden openings. There are little secrets we can do and there's lots of double-sided tape!"
