South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) reassured the public that 94-year-old anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela is in “good shape and good spirits” after being hospitalized for an infection earlier this month.

“President Mandela is in good health and is receiving the very best medical care,” a statement by ANC spokesperson Jackson Mthembu read.

The party issued the update after a delegation of the ANC’s top six members, including President Jacob Zuma, paid Mandela a visit at his home in Johannesburg today. Mandela has been receiving medical care at his home since being discharged from the hospital earlier this month after receiving treatment for pneumonia.

Mandela’s most recent hospital stay was his third since December, leaving many with grave concerns about the health of the aging leader. Even in his recovery, ANC reps say that Mandela is aware of the concern and grateful for the support.

“President Mandela is keenly aware of the goodwill that has been outpouring from the peoples of the globe as befitting his status as our icon. The African National Congress thanks all South Africans and the international community for keeping President Mandela in their thoughts and prayers.”
