200 Girls Abducted From Boarding School in Nigeria

While sleeping, 200 girls were abducted from their dormitories in Kano, Nigeria, by Boko Haram, an Islamist group.

While hundreds of girls were asleep in their dormitories Monday night, they were awaken when an army of Boko Haram Islamists abducted them from the Government Girls Secondary School in Chibok, Nigeria.
The men reportedly gunned down soldiers guarding the school before invading. As many as 200 girls were then forced into trucks, buses and vans, according to CNN. When one of the vehicles broke down, some of the girls broke away from the group and ran into the bush.
Boko Haram literately means "Western education is a sin." This is not the first time the group has carried out attacks against schools. Last month, the Borno state government closed its schools, keeping more than 120,000 students out of the classroom after Boko Haram increased their attacks.
