Axel Audio Is a New Contender in the Headphones Game

Company launches Kickstarter for new product that will customize listening experience.

Individual personal expression is becoming an increasingly more important feature in everything from the food that we eat to the play lists we share on Spotify. Axel Audio wants to bring that same freedom of customization and apply it to the realm of soundscapes, with its new line of premium modular headphones that the consumer designs themselves.

“As of today, music lovers no longer have to compromise their unique identities as listeners in order to enjoy the transformative experience of their favorite music through premium analog headphones,” said Axel Audio co-founder Kevin Oh. 

The same way someone would create their own omelet at a restaurant, music lovers can choose from a menu of options that includes speaker units, headband, inserts and the cable all of which are interchangeable. And to top it all off there is even a list of soundscapes to tailor the experience for each individual listener. 

Deep: Rhythmic patterns with reverberating lows for the fullest, most immediate listening experience.

Pure: Extremely refined and open sound that unveils all details.

Core: The most dynamic sound, with smooth textures and an especially sweet mid-range.

For those not sure of what they like, Axel developers created an app to analyze your listening behaviors on Spotify and use music algorithms at The Echo Nest to attain the perfect pairing of the listener and their preferred soundscape.

When asked what inspired this sonic journey, Oh cited his passion for audible experience as the fuel to his fire.

“[Music is] the driving force across all facets of our lives; for many, it’s a defining aspect of identity or at least a reflection of it,” said Oh. “Especially today, given our unprecedented access, music is becoming evermore personal. Knowing this, we wanted to create audio products that could answer to the depths of personality and taste,” he added.

With the product on the cusp of hitting the market, Axel has launched a Kickstarter to provide more of the headphones’ unique molds and other equipment required to provide the optimal listening experience. Backers will be able to select headphones with on-ear headsets, priced at $99 in limited quantity and at $125 once those run out. Kickstarter backers will receive a standard “Classic” headset, a “Spikes” headset and an exclusive limited-edition glow-in-the-dark green “Waves’” headband for free with their donation/pre-order.
