Mayor Bloomberg isn't a fan of chaos.

Hip-hop heavyweight Jay-Z was slated to put on a surprise performance on top of the marquee at the Ed Sullivan Theater next Monday (June 21), but the Mayor shut the event down due to the chaos caused at Drake's show earlier this week.

The surprise show was planned to go down during his appearance on the "Late Show with David Letterman" in the middle of rush hour in midtown Manhattan.

Julianne Cho, a spokeswoman for the theater, explained, "There was discussion of a concert, and ultimately it was decided there would be no permit."

Sources close to the show explained that the concert would have gone as planned, but the information was leaked to the public. "Many permits are granted on the condition that the event is not made public beforehand for capacity and security reasons," Cho said. "This event was made public."

Reps for Jay-Z have yet to comment.
