Common Says Badu Dumped Him Over The Phone

The rapper tells Wendy Williams it was his first heartbreak.

Back in the early 2000s, depending on one’s perspective, Erykah Badu and Common were the epitome of a Hip-Hop love gone great.

Aside from the crocheted sweater pants Common wore after they started dating, the couple created great music together, like “Love of My Life (An Ode to Hip-Hop),” from 2002’s Brown Sugar. They both won a Grammy for the track.

But one day, in the same year that Badu snagged her fourth Grammy award, love didn't live there anymore. EUR Web reports the Chicago cutie candidly tells Wendy Williams, “I was in my hotel room on tour and … she called me and was like, ‘Hey, I don’t wanna be in this relationship no more. I’m liking somebody else.’”

In 2004, Badu gave birth to her daughter Puma with West Coast rapper The D.O.C. While they both have moved on, Common says, “It taught me a lot of things, and when it happened I kinda really got into myself and really learned about myself and I was able to move on, and now me and E is real cool.”
