RZA discusses details of the upcoming film.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard's life story could be headed to the big screen, and two high profile Hollywood funny men are vying for the role.
RZA, ODB's cousin and fellow Wu Tang Clan pioneer, tells XXLmag.com that he's heard interest expressed from both comedians Eddie Griffin and Tracy Morgan about playing the part of the unpredictable rap star.
"Eddie Griffin is down” RZA said. “Me and Eddie talked about it, laughed about it. Tracy Morgan, he wanna do it [too]. I said ‘Ya’ll both kinda can do it.’”
Griffin seems the more likely of the two to land the gig, given that he knew ODB and has already signed a letter of intent to play the role. The two corn-rolled men also bare a passing resemblance.
“Eddie spent time with Dirty,” RZA revealed. “They knew each other well.”
The ODB biopic is being written by Raeshawn, another of the late rapper's cousins. According to RZA, the project has been in the works for two years.
The Wu Tang mastermind is currently hard at work on another film, his directorial debut The Man With The Iron Fist, starring Russell Crowe, Lucy Liu and Pam Grier. And a Raekwon biopic is also in the works, featuring Cee Lo Green playing The Chef's father.
