Vybz Kartel Prison Break "Just a Rumor"

Police deny dancehall star escaped from prison.

Reports that Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel has escaped from prison early this morning have proven false. Earlier, a rumor spread across the Internet that the 35-year-old artist and seven others held guards hostage at gunpoint and broke free from the New Horizon Remand Centre.
However, Assistant Commissioner of Police Les Green told the Jamaica Observer that the stories are absolutely false. "I know nothing about that," he said. "If that had taken place I would certainly have known."
Although it's still unclear how the stories began, one officer suggests that it might just be the result of a publicity stunt. "It may be an attempt by his cronies to keep him in the news but they don't need to spread rumors to do that because he will be in the news for quite some time," said one police officer from the Denham Town Police station.
As previously reported, police nabbed the Jamaican dancehall artist in New Kingston, Jamaica, on October 1 after they discovered a corpse in a St. Andrew House he allegedly frequents. The discovery led to a massive raid of some of Vybz's residences and hang-outs throughout Jamaica, during which police found some marijuana.

Just weeks after his first arrest police pinned another murder charge on the "Rampin Shop" singer.
