Prince Says Goodbye to Universal Publishing

Prince ends long-standing deal.

After seven years together, Prince has left Universal Music Publishing Group, according to Music Week. In 2005, the music legend had signed a worldwide deal with the company, which covered his entire back catalogue of music in addition to any future releases while he was signed with the group.

There haven’t been any details released about where the global star will head for his next publishing deal. However, his manager, Kiran Sharma did say this in a statement:

“We are pleased to announce that Prince and Universal have reached a mutual agreement in terminating their long standing publishing deal,” said Sharma. “It is an exciting opportunity for Prince to consider fresh and new ideas for all his music.”

In the early-'90s, Prince had a tumultuous battle with Warner Music Group, which led to him changing his name to a love symbol until he reached a mutual agreement with the label to end his contract.

While it seems like the UMPG relationship ended on a good note, fans still eagerly await the musical genius’ next move.
