Rapper Ms. Melodie of Boogie Down Productions Has Died
Notable MC Ms. Melodie, real name Ramona Scott, has passed away, the Urban Daily reports. The rapper was married to KRS-One and was a member of his legendary Boogie Down Productions (BDP) group until the couple divorced in 1992.
The Brooklyn hip hop artist dropped the single "Hype According to Ms. Melodie" in 1988 and released her only album, Diva, the following year with Jive Records. The single and album were largely produced by KRS-One, and her hit "Wake Up, Wake Up" made it into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart.
The follow-up song, "Live on Stage," was her biggest music video, and she also made a cameo appearance in Queen Latifah's video for "Ladies First."
