Ice-T Defends Gun Control Laws

The rapper says he's not giving up his weapon.

Ice-T is defending Americans’ constitutional right to bear arms for self-defense. In the wake of the shooting tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, gun control laws have been a hot topic in the media and amongst political pundits. In an interview with Channel 4, the Godfather of Gangsta Rap gave his two cents on the issue.

“I’ll give up my gun when everybody else does. Doesn’t that make sense? If there were guns here, would you want to be the only person without one?” the rapper stated. “Yeah, it’s legal in the United States. It’s part of our constitution. The right to bear arms is because it’s the last defense against tyranny. It’s not to hunt; it’s to protect yourself from the police.”

The West Coast rap pioneer doesn’t see a link between the Colorado massacre and gun control laws. He argued that adjusting the law wouldn’t stop anyone from using weapons to commit crimes.

“[Changing the law is] not going to change anything in the United States. The United States is based on guns. Like KRS says, 'you’ll never have justice on stolen land.' So it’s not going to change.”
