The Wu leaders says Yeezy's voice came to him while editing The Man with the Iron First.
Kanye West and RZA have formed a fruitful working relationship over the past few years, with RZA producing and rapping on 'Ye's 2010 opus My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Kanye contributing raps to the soundtrack of RZA's recent directorial debut The Man With the Iron Fists. Speaking to MTV News, RZA said he heard Kanye's voice while editing a specific scene for the film and reached out to him for a track.
"When I had the scene done with Lucy Liu and all of these pretty girls, I reached out to [Kanye] and said, 'I want you to come to the editing room and see this scene and potentially give me a song for it,'" he said. "So he came in, watched the scene and he loved it, and all he had was a demo of the music. I told him, 'You could take this music, add to it and flip it, because I know how good you are at what you do. But the main thing is that I want it to be a female-based song.'"
The song that Yeezy wrote was "White Dress," which debuted online last month. The recently smitten emcee's lyrics on the song detail his relationship with a woman who may or may not be his bride to be.
"[In the movie scene], Lucy Liu walks in — not with a white dress — but she does come in with a gown, and somehow his lyrics really resonate with the scene," RZA said.
As for whether the two iconic producers have any more collaborations planned, say, on Kanye's much-rumored sixth solo album, the Wu-Tang founder said it's a possibility.
"There's been some emails back and forth," he said. "My schedule has been crazy — I'm quite sure his has been crazy as well — but if I get a chance to do some stuff before he finishes the record, I'd love to go in and add some energy."
