Dr. Dre protégé and T.D.E. standout Kendrick Lamar continues to rack up impressive accolades on his rise to stardom. The Compton MC's critically acclaimed album, good kid, m.A.A.d city, has scored its first platinum single after introspective alcoholic anthem "Swimming Pools" sold over one million copies, according to Soundscan.

The single recently reached the 500,000 Gold mark in December.

News of Kendrick's new status as a platinum-selling artist comes in the same week he is set to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live. K. Dot joins a list of big name hip hop stars, Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Jay-Z to name a few, who have appeared on the variety show as musical guests. However, "The Recipe" rapper wants to utilize his talents a bit more while he's on SNL.

"Yeah, I'll do a skit. We clown around in the studio all day; I can do it on TV in front of the camera," Kendrick told MTV News. "Put me in one of those skits SNL! Wassup?"
