Erykah Badu: Papoose Never Got OK to Use My Vocals

Badu says she never gave permission to use her voice on "Cure."

Erykah Badu has found a cure for allegedly unscrupulous dealings in the music biz: just put them on blast via Twitter.

Brooklyn-based rapper Papoose got the healing when the singer/certified doula laid hands on her keyboard in response to the song "Cure," featured on his long-awaited debut album, The Nacimera Dream.

“This Papoose song Cure," she tweeted, "I sang those vocals 10 years ago. That's 2 babies ago. Sh----t. So mcs just throwing out old material- no paperwork.."

Papoose was slated to release a version of the The Nacirema Dream album in the mid-2000s when he had a $1.5 million deal with Jive. That paperwork got shelved along with his music.

Many mixtapes later, he instead released his first official studio album last month (Mar. 26) via indie label Honorable Records. Other features include Mobb Deep, Jim Jones, Jadakiss and Papoose’s wife, Remy Ma.

However, with Badu suggesting that the vocals are unauthorized, there’s no telling what will become of the song.

Badu will be performing on the Centric Stage at Club Nokia on Friday, June 28 as part of the BET Experience.
