Kanye West and Kim Kardashian's extravagant lifestyle has caught the attention of President Obama. Before addressing Amazon employees at the company's Tennessee warehouse Monday, the commander in chief sat down for a "Kindle Singles" interview, where he made mention of the couple's influence in redefining the American dream.

Before "Kimye" and the like landed on the public's radar, the average American lived by a different economic standard, he said. "The American dream involved some pretty basic stuff, a good job where you felt some security, a good education," Obama said. "People felt if they worked hard they could get there, I don't think people went around saying to themselves, 'I need to have a 10,000-square-foot house.'"

Pointing to a "shift in culture," the president explained how open access to celebrity life has distorted things. "We weren't exposed to things we didn't have in the same way that kids these days are. There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous. Kids weren't monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing or where Kanye West was going on vacation and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success."

West and Kardashian have a combined net worth of over $100 million and are known to showcase the fruits of their labor. Last June, Kardashian bought the Chicago native a $750,000 Lamborghini Aventador. A month later, he gifted her with $35,000 worth of Cartier jewelry. Together, the two reportedly spent another $750,000 on gold plated toilets for their new Bel Air Mansion.

In 2011, the self-proclaimed Louis Vuitton Don was criticized for showing up to an Occupy Wall St. protest wearing a $25,000 gold chain.

This isn't the first time that President Obama has called the G.O.O.D. Music rapper out, however. He called 'Ye a "jacka--" for storming Taylor Swift's VMA acceptance speech in 2009.
