Two wrongs don't make a right, but they might make great TV. Kanye West is slated to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live! two weeks after he lambasted the host for producing a lackluster skit about him. "MY GUEST WILL BE @kanyewest (for real, yes and was it all a setup, no)," Kimmel tweeted.
In September, the late night talk show host aired a spoof of an in-depth interview between West and the BBC's Zane Lowe using children to play the role of the rapper and the reporter, and sparking one of West's notorious Twitter rants.
"JIMMY KIMMEL IS OUT OF LINE TO TRY AND SPOOF IN ANY WAY THE FIRST PIECE OF HONEST MEDIA IN YEARS," West tweeted. "JIMMY KIMMEL, I DON’T TAKE IT AS A JOKE…. YOU DON’T HAVE SCUM BAGS HOPPING OVER FENCES TRYING TO TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR DAUGHTER,' he added. "JIMMY KIMMEL PUT YOURSELF IN MY SHOES … OH NO THAT MEANS YOU WOULD HAVE GOTTEN TOO MUCH GOOD P---Y IN YOUR LIFE….”
Kimmel's skit was far from the first time West had been infantilized by a talk show host. In 2010, NBC's Matt Lauer repeatedly asked West to look at a clip of George W. Bush's face as the former commander-in-chief said that West calling him a racist was "one of the most disgusting moments" in his presidency. After the clip ran once, West said that he empathized with Bush and that he felt that way immediately after he infamously said, "George Bush doesn't care about Black people." Lauer continued to goad him, however. "Just look at him," he kept saying as West grew increasingly irritated. West eventually canceled a follow-up performance he was scheduled to give on the Today show.
And in 2009, one year after his mother Donda West's sudden death, 'Ye appeared on Jay Leno's late night show and was moved to tears after Leno asked "What would your mother say [about the Taylor Swift debacle]?"
Back in 2013, West had deleted his tweets to Kimmel, but, according to the show's website, has officially agreed to the sit down. His appearance airs today, Wednesday, at 11:35 p.m. ET on ABC.
