YG Sets Sights on Next Spring for Album Release
West Coast rapper YG has honed in on March 18 as the release date for his debut LP, My Krazy Life, which is to be executive produced by Jeezy. The project will drop via Def Jam with guest appearances from the Snowman and Drake, among others.
Grammy-nominated producer DJ Mustard will man the beats for My Krazy Life, which has already spawned singles "Left, Right," and the summer hit "My N---a" featuring Jeezy and Rich Homie Quan. YG attributes the record's popularity to its message. "It represents brotherhood," he said in a statement to BET.com. "It's a friendship record so everybody feels that."
Also significant to the Compton native is the March 18 drop date, as it commemorates the five-year anniversary since he went to jail and ultimately turned his life around. The release symbolizes how far YG has come over the years and stands as his sonic interpretation of life in Southern California.
The 23-year-old spitter has made quite a name for himself since "Toot It & Boot It" put him on the map. Aside from signing to Jeezy's CTE imprint this summer, Young Gangsta has released six mixtapes since 2008 and seeks to grab the West Coast rap crown right next to his longtime producer and friend, stating, "Me and Mustard are the new Dre and Snoop."
