Remy Ma was released from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York early this morning after serving six years behind bars, MTV News reports.

The Bronx spitter, whose birth name is Reminisce Smith, was freed at around 8 a.m. EST. She was met by husband Papoose, and her manager, among others. In honor of her return, Hot 97 radio host Peter Rosenberg tweeted, "#RemysHome !!!!!!!!!!" this morning.

Remy, 34, was sentenced to eight years on assault for shooting a friend in the stomach. The former Terror Squad front woman talked to Angie Martinez last week about getting out of prison, and what she learned from being locked up. "You get to see from [different perspectives] when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please," she explained. "It's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear your hair how you want."

Upon her release Remy promised to jump right back into music. In her talk with Martinez she revealed that several record labels are interested in signing her to a deal. Her first and only studio album, There's Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, dropped in 2006.
