Bronx rapper still being held at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women due to disciplinary incident.
UPDATE: REVOLT TV reports that Remy Ma was not released from the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women Thursday (July 31) morning, the 34-year-old rapper is still in prison. She remains locked up due to a July 21 incident requiring disciplinary action, a prison official confirmed to REVOLT. Remy will stay incarcerated pending a response to the incident report.
The New York State Department of Corrections website currently lists Remy as "In Custody." No release date has been given.
The Bronx spitter, whose birth name is Reminisce Smith, was freed at around 8 a.m. EST. She was met by husband Papoose, and her manager, among others. In honor of her return, Hot 97 radio host Peter Rosenberg tweeted, "#RemysHome !!!!!!!!!!" this morning.
Remy, 34, was sentenced to eight years on assault for shooting a friend in the stomach. The former Terror Squad front woman talked to Angie Martinez last week about getting out of prison, and what she learned from being locked up. "You get to see from [different perspectives] when you're stuck in one spot and you can't just go as you please and do things as you please," she explained. "It's the simple things, you can't take a shower when you want to. You can't make something to eat when you want, you can't wear your hair how you want."
Upon her release Remy promised to jump right back into music. In her talk with Martinez she revealed that several record labels are interested in signing her to a deal. Her first and only studio album, There's Something About Remy: Based on a True Story, dropped in 2006.
