Azealia Banks’s Beef With Iggy Azalea Is Deeper Than Rap

Racially charged war of words between hip hop foes ignites on Twitter after Harlem MC's emotional HOT 97 interview.

Proving that she speaks her mind no matter the setting, Azealia Banks went to Hot 97, where she candidly discussed everything from her ongoing beef with Iggy Azalea to cultural appropriation in hip hop and even broke down in the process.

Chatting with Hot 97's Ebro for the 45-minute interview, Banks spoke on how white artists take advantage of Black culture, specifically targeting the likes of Macklemore and her arch nemesis Iggy Azalea.

"I feel like, in this country, whenever it comes to our things, like Black issues or Black politics or Black music or whatever, there's always this undercurrent of kinda like a 'F**k you,'" she said. "There's always a 'F**k y'all n****s. Y'all don't really own s**t. Y'all don't have s**t.' That Mackelmore album wasn't better than the Drake record. That Iggy Azalea s**t isn't better than any f*****g Black girl that's rapping today."

The most compelling part of the segment came when the "Chasing Time" rapper teared up while talking about the history of Blacks in America, tying in the recent tragedies of Eric Garner and Michael Brown to prove its relevancy in modern times: "Until y'all motherf*****s ready to talk about what you owe me... at the very f*****g least, you owe me my identity and to not exploit that s**t."

Following the interview, Banks further slammed the "Fancy" rapper in a series of tweets, christening her with another nickname: "Itchy Areola, you are so stupid and selfish to make any of this about yourself in particular. My tears had absolutely nothing to [do] with you and everything to do with society and the media in general. You have absolutely no place to comment. Stay out of this one..."

After noticing Azealia's comments, the Aussie rapper replied, "Special msg for banks: There are many Black artists succeeding in all genres. The reason you haven't is because of your piss poor attitude. Your inability to be responsible for your own mistakes, bullying others, the inability to be humble or have self control. It's YOU!... You're poisonous and I feel genuinely sorry for you because it's obvious at this point you are a MISERABLE, angry human being. Regards!"

Banks was promoting her debut full-length album Broke With Expensive Taste, which dropped on Nov. 6.
