"Only One," the song he delivered to ring in the New Year, is just the first listen of "a prolific musical collaboration between these two legendary artists," a rep for the rapper announced.
The ballad, dedicated to his daughter and sung from the perspective of West's mother, came from "a simple brainstorming session between the two," at an intimate bungalow in L.A., reports Complex, "with McCartney improvising on the keyboards and Kanye vocally sketching and shaping ideas in a stream-of-consciousness riff."
Their daughter, Nori, was present during one of the playbacks, sitting on his lap, when Ye realized, "in that moment that his late mother, Dr. Donda West, who was also his mentor, confidant, and best friend, had spoken through him that day."
"My mom was singing to me, and through me to my daughter," he said.
No word yet on where the track, or the other collaborations between Ye and McCartney, will land. Kanye is expected to release a follow up to his critically acclaimed Yeezus this year.
