Kanye West Pretends to Storm the Stage at Grammy Awards

Yeezy interrupts as Beck accepts Album of the Year.

UPDATE: Kanye West was not playing around. The G.O.O.D. Music founder may have had a smile on his face when he almost Kanyed Beck's Album of the Year acceptance speech at the Grammys last night — and Beyoncé was laughing when she said "No Kanye, no" from the audience — but his crashing of the stage was no joke.

"I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us," he told E! after Music's Biggest Night wrapped. "We ain't gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyoncé."

Ye added that he's not the only one "tired" of the snubs. "Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration. And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place."

He said the reason he held back during the ceremony was out of consideration for his wife, his daughter and his clothing line.

PREVIOUS:  After a six year hiatus from the Grammy Awards, Kanye West took it right back to 2009 when he stormed the stage as Beck accepted the Album of the Year award for Morning Phase. This time, however, Yeezy was just playing around.

After Prince announced this year's nominees ("Albums matter," he said. "Like books and Black lives, albums still matter."), which included Beyoncé's eponymous LP, Sam Smith's The Lonely Hour and Ed Sheeran's X, Yeezy hopped on stage before Beck could go into his speech. He then laughed into the camera with a "nevermind" and walked away.
So much for "not smiling makes me smile." Yeezy put a grin on all our faces with his little stunt. The Yeezus rapper has plenty to smile about, after all. His duo of performances were the talk of the night and prove that any awards show is just better with him involved.
