While sitting for an "ask-me-anything" interview with Sway in the Morning, the Poppington Group creator/Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder answered everything, including why he's currently not working with Jay Z.
"I don't have a beef with Jay," Dame said, "never did ... We just approach business different."
He goes on to explain, saying that he said he's "scared" to work with Hova because of what he read in a newspaper.
"This is the one time that the paper did scare me, and I was like, ‘Well there has to be some truth to it,’ which is when I read about his affiliation with informants," Dame said. "You know, that he was in business with certain people. And, it’s tricky for me to say, but based on where I’m from, I can’t have nothing to do with that."
It seemed hopeful, recently, that the two hip hop titans would reconnect on a corporate level. They've been spotted being at least cordial with one another; one of their greatest successes out of the Roc, Kanye West, called Dame to present him with his BET Honors Visionary Award; and there's the fact that Dame doesn't necessarily believe all things the media puts out there.
Still, Dame said that that informants report registered as plausible in his mind. "There’s paperwork. So, it’s not to believe, there’s paperwork so, that part of it scares me. I know Biggs is in jail, I know Irv Gotti’s been harassed for years over s**t he didn’t do. I know they’ve been f*****g with me for years. So, it just means I need to stay over here."
While that sinks in, Dame also talked about his Losaidas movie, which he encourages everyone to check out because, "F**k Hollywood," he's not from there either; his beef with Empire co-creator Lee Daniels (he says he owes him $2 million, and that's without interest); and why he brought Sway and crew cupcakes for the interview. (No, it wasn't payola.)
He then hinted that it's possible that he could figure things out with Jay. He says he just hasn't "had the conversation" with him yet.
