<p>The <a href="http://www.naacp.org/" target="_blank">NAACP</a> wins the landmark case, <a href="http://www.jstor.org/pss/2294882" target="_blank"><i>Gibbs v. Board of Education</i></a>, against the state of Maryland, ensuring that white and Black teachers are paid equally.
