This Funny Explanation of Harriet Tubman's Spy Tactics Will Have You Cracking Up
You've never heard the story of Harriet Tubman told like this. The comedy series Drunk History enlisted comedian @Crissles to tell the story of Tubman's spy tactics and it's funny while remaining respectful to Ms. Tubman's legacy.
The show features a comedian narrating a reenactment of real historical figures. In the latest episode, actress Octavia Spencer plays Tubman during the Civil War era. The clip takes us back to when Tubman served as a nurse for Union soldiers and eventually became a spy to help General David Hunter and later Colonel James Montgomery.
Crissles brings the story to life with her own humorous dialogue between the characters while she's clearly already inebriated from whatever she's sipping on.
"At first she was like a regular person like a nurse, and that's when she was like, 'I know I can do better than this. I know I can free way more slaves than what you're doing right now,'" Crissles said of Tubman.
Later on in the video, Tubman goes to Colonel Montgomery and presents her plan to free more slaves.
"I have this idea to burn up all the plantations. Here's all my research and you should just let me do it," Tubman says. "F**k it," Montgomery said. "I don't have s**t to lose. Let's work together and burn that shit down."
