Death of BET Employee Who Received Silicone Injections Ruled a Homicide

Kelly Mayhew visited an unlicensed surgeon in May 2015.

The death of a 34-year-old Maryland woman who traveled to Brooklyn for a bigger butt has been ruled a homicide by the New York City medical examiner, New York Daily News reports.

Kelly Mayhew, who worked at BET Networks, was injected with silicone in May 2015. Once she began to react negatively to the injections, the doctor fled the scene, never offering help to the ailing patient.

“The cause of death is systemic silicone emboli due to cosmetic silicone injections of buttocks,” said Julie Bolcer, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner. “The manner of death is homicide.”

Mayhew had previously received five enhancements, according to her mother, who was there during the procedure.

Located in the basement of a two-family home in Far Rockaway, Queens, Mayhew arrived with her mother to the “doctor's” home to receive the injections. Mayhew reacted immediately and began to gurgle and struggle to breathe. Grabbing her keys, the doctor — who’s name has not been released — headed out of the basement office, speeding off in a gray SUV.

Mayhem's mother desperately tried to revive her daughter with CPR but could not save her life. After her mother called 911, Mayhew was rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The doctor is still on the run and the NYPD has confirmed that "the investigation is ongoing.”
