Debra Lee to Be Honored at 13th Annual Rhapsody Gala

BET's CEO, Debra Lee, will be honored in November with a Media Visionary Award at the 13th annual Rhapsody Gala.

BET's CEO, Debra Lee, will be honored in November with a Media Visionary Award at the 13th annual Rhapsody Gala, held by YWCA Greater Los Angeles.

The organization celebrates "powerful institutions and individuals within America's minority communities, which are bringing hope to young people whose childhoods were empty of hope," a statement reads. The Rhapsody Gala is also the prime means of support of the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, and it further helps to transform the lives of youth who otherwise would not have the resources they need to survive and thrive into adulthood.
Lee's work is reflective of this mission, the organization says.
"Ms. Lee continues to set patterns of excellence for the entire spectrum of media with BET Networks’ authentic programming and corporate philanthropy that positively impacts how young minorities see themselves and their community, directing them to lives of success and contribution," says Faye Washington, the YWCA's GLA's president and CEO.

Past recipients of the Rhapsody Gala include the late legendary poet Maya Angelou and Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the first African-American president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, Nov. 13 (Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, CA).
