Louis Farrakhan Praises Donald Trump for the Worst Possible Reason

He respects Trump for not taking money from the Jewish community.

Nation of Islam leader and prominent civil rights activist Louis Farrakhan showed his political hand last week when he praised Donald Trump for not taking campaign money from the Jewish community.

Farrakhan made the remark as a part of his Saviour’s Day sermon at a Nation of Islam mosque in Chicago. Farrakhan remarked that Trump "is the only member who has stood in front of the Jewish community and said I don’t want your money.” The civil rights activist continued, “Any time a man can say to those who control the politics of America, ‘I don’t want your money,’ that means you can’t control me. And they cannot afford to give up control of the presidents of the United States.”

Given his record of inflammatory public statements, Farrakhan's statements are not wholly shocking. But it is surprising that he has, apparently, chosen to ignore the fact that Trump has interacted positively with white supremacists and is running on an incredibly anti-Muslim platform.

It seems Farrakhan has gone full Republican following his sermon. On Monday he tweeted about his disdain for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton:

Farrakhan made news following the Super Bowl 50 Halftime show by offering to provide security for Beyoncé's future shows if the police refused to do so.
