[Watch] Twitter Drags Hillary Clinton for Using Hot Sauce to Appeal to Black Voters

What worked for Beyoncé didn't go too well for the Democratic frontrunner.

Published April 18th

Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's attempt at scoring some cool points went pretty far south on Monday morning during a visit to radio show The Breakfast Club. During a sitdown with Charlamagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy to continue her push to reach New Yorkers before the New York primary this week, she made a statement that has some people giving the candidate some serious side-eye. Clinton claims that she, just like Beyoncé, always has hot sauce in her purse.

Twitter, of course, has been relentlessly clowning Clinton for co-opting the famous line from Bey's "Formation," — "I got hot sauce in my bag, swag." Skip to 25:00 in the video below to see Clinton answer the question, and then see how Twitter dragged her for it:

Interestingly, facts tell us this is one position Clinton isn't actually late to the game on. The presidential candidate first expressed her love for hot sauce in the 1990s, when she touted the benefits of eating raw jalapenos and called the spicy peppers "so refreshing." Slate even covered the candidate's need for spice months before the presidential election started to heat up.

Maybe Clinton should have opened up her bag and let us take a peek to quell any doubts. Surely, Bernie Sanders will be calling on her to do so in his next newsletter.

Though she's leading the polls among African-American voters, Hillary has come under criticism from the Black community throughout her campaign. Check out other times the Democratic frontrunner has run into issues, with BET News:
