Fair to say that Snapchatting in blackface is never a good idea, but if you're a white girl on scholarship at an HBCU? That takes a special level of stupidity.
A student at Prairie View A&M University, allegedly named Brooke, angered thousands when she posted a selfie on Snap story, in which she appears in blackface. "When you just tryna fit in at your hbcu," she captioned the offensive pic. In no time at all, the image went viral and Twitter has been going off on the racist student ever since.
Imagine seeing this pop up on your feed:
Twitter wasted no time putting the anonymous in her place, with many calling for her expulsion:
Doing blackface at an HBCU is the dumbest move of all time. Especially at one that is built on a slave plantation— Greg (@ItsG_REG) September 29, 2016
You have to be a special kind of dumb to make a black face snap while attending an HBCU...— TC Ivy (@BienSur_JeTaime) September 29, 2016
Some lil White girl attending an HBCU did Blackface? Bitch...— Scam Grier (@BELLEionaire) September 29, 2016
So this week we had one white college student dress up as a gorilla at ETSU and now a white girl in blackface on SCHOLARSHIP at a HBCU.— Kodak Kaepernick (@DrTGIF) September 29, 2016
Interestingly, some alunmi are calling to make this a teachable moment, by explaining the history of blackface to this student rather than expelling her and crucifying her online. Do you agree, or nah?
