Earlier this week, on Election Day (Nov. 9), student Natasha Nkhama bravely explained an incident that happened while she was attending class at Baylor University in Texas.

Her friend, Jaileene Maite, reposted the video to her Twitter account, which ended up going viral. During the video, Nkhama explains that  while she was walking to one of her classes, a male peer "went out of his way to bump into [her] and shove [her] off the sidewalk."

In addition to pushing her off the sidewalk, the unidentified white male student added insult to injury by saying, "No n*****s allowed on the sidewalk."

"I was just shocked, like I had no words," Nkhama says.

She then elaborates, explaining that another male student, who witnessed the scene unfold, stuck up for her, saying, "Dude, what are you doing? That's not cool."

His response? "Dude, like what... I'm just trying to make America great again."

Nkhama then says in the video, "So if you voted for Donald Trump, I hope you understand what that means from someone else's point of view."

After the tweet began making its rounds on social media, students at Baylor University decided to take action, in a simple but deeply touching way. 

On Friday (Nov. 11) nearly 300 students gathered on campus to walk Nkhama to class, ensuring her safety, while also raising awareness that such racist behavior will not be tolerated. The hundreds of students who participated in the emotional walk of solidarity, supported their fellow student with the hashtag, #IWalkWithNatasha.

"I just wanted to thank everyone for being here," Nkhama addressed the crowd, while holding back tears. "I want everyone who sees this to know that Baylor is a campus of love."

The school also issued a statement in response to the incident condemning the behavior of the male student who taunted Nkhama, saying it was "deeply disturbing." They also said that they are working with Nkhama to "ensure she feels safe and supported by the Baylor community." The university also praised the male student who initially intervened.

"To the gentleman who said those words, I’m praying for you and I love you…" Nkhama added. And everyone here loves you, and we just want to see the world be a better place."
